“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” ~C.S. Lewis
There are a couple of things we believe, as a society, which makes it seem like getting older is a race against the clock. We may not realize it, but it is almost ingrained in us to look at aging as if it’s a terrible disease.
One big lie we tell ourselves is that if you don’t find success by a certain age it’s never going to happen. The second made up belief is that once you reach a certain age you can never try anything new.
In case it hasn’t been made clear already, these beliefs are totally unfounded! There are countless people over the age of 30, 40, and even 50 that found success later in life, even after that supposed point of no return. Check out this list for proof that enormous accomplishments can come at any age!
Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart is known around the world for her delicious recipes, jaw-dropping decorations, and impeccable party planning, but did you know all that came to her later in life?
Stewart spent time as a model and even as a stockbroker until her 30s when she turned her love of cooking and decorating into a full-time career, and now a multimillion-dollar company. Where do you think she would be at if she gave into that old adage of “I’m too old”?
Jeff Bezos
Jeff Bezos might be considered the pinnacle of success in today’s world, but it didn’t just happen overnight. Before he founded Amazon.com and became the richest man in the world, he had a solid career in computer science.
In 1993 he had his first vision of an online bookstore, and thus after years of hard work Amazon was born in 1997. Do you know how old he was when he made this switch? 33! Proof that 30 is definitely not old.
Vera Wang
Vera Wang is one of the most well-known designers in the world, and scores of women hope to get married in one of her famous dresses. It seems like she’s always been a fashion industry icon.
What you may not know is that her whirlwind fashion career started when she was 40 and already had a successful career as a journalist and ice skater. Do you see? It’s never too late to go after your dreams.
Colonel Sanders
Colonel Sanders’ famed white mustache, goatee, and black rim glasses are recognized all over the world because of his KFC chicken, but the restaurant game wasn’t always his calling.
Sanders worked various odd jobs throughout his long life. Everything from gas station attendant to railroad worker, but he didn’t start selling his world-famous chicken until he was 62. That’s right, 62!
