If you knew how many foods could actually be frozen, then there would be a lot less to throw out and waste. There would also be fewer perishables to clean out of the fridge after they have been lingering for months (and are likely the source of that weird smell you can’t find). That is always gross. That can be prevented by keeping those foods in the freezer. Let’s go over 5 foods that can be frozen.
Avocados are one of the foods that ripen so fast that if they are even slightly overripe, they are no good and begin to form bruises within the flesh. Avocados are not supposed to be refrigerated unless they start ripening fast and need to be stored just for another day. But even so, avocados will not last for very long in the fridge once they are ripe.
However, avocados can be frozen. Not if they are sliced, but if they are pureed. What you will want to do is if you plan to freeze your avocado, add 1 tablespoon of lime or lemon juice in the avocado before pureeing it so it maintains its color. Then put it in a container that is airtight to freeze. It can last for several months.
Bananas can be frozen and once they are ripe but you don’t plan to eat it for days, then throw it in the freezer. Frozen bananas also make excellent smoothies.
3. Citrus Fruits
Fruits such as grapefruits, oranges, tangerine, clementines, lemons, limes, and any other citrus fruit can end up with not the best texture after being frozen. But there is a way to do that. Wash the fruit and peel it, then cut it into sections and remove the seeds. Then put the fruit into containers while pouring cold water that is made with about 40 percent fruit juice or just plain water. Then freeze them.
4. Corn On The Cob
If you boil corn on the cob for 7 to 11 minutes (the larger ones should be boiled for longer), and cool and dry them after, they can be frozen. All you need to do is to put them into a container that is airtight before placing them in the fridge. Then they will stay good for a long time.
Eggs are the last food that you thought could be frozen, but they can. You do not want to freeze eggs in shells. But crack the eggs, whisk them, and then put them into an airtight container to freeze. They are good for up to a year.
