Have you been putting some foods in the fridge only to find out after that they are no good when you take them out? That definitely is an unpleasant surprise. You are ready to eat the food you had placed in your fridge and you then find out the hard way it is inedible. Then you have to go eat something else. Let’s now look at the 5 foods to not put in your fridge:

1. Potatoes

When potatoes are put into the fridge when they are raw, the texture, as well as the flavor, are affected. They have a gritty texture and the flavor will just simply be not right. Therefore, raw potatoes do not belong in the fridge. Put them in paper bags in a dark pantry to store. After they have been cooked, and if potatoes are leftover, then you can place them in the fridge for a few days. If they are not eaten after 4 days, then you will need to toss them out.

2. Bread

Bread is not meant to be refrigerated. It will dry out very fast and it can even go moldy. No one would want to see that happen. Place your bread in the pantry, or you can put it in the freezer and toast it after. The only time when you can put bread in the fridge for a very short time, for a few hours maximum is if you have a sandwich that needs to be cooled before eating it for lunch. That is the only exception.

3. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are not meant to be refrigerated if they have not been cut. It will hamper the ripening process and then will cause tomatoes to become mushy inside. That is not how you want to have your tomatoes. Keep them on the kitchen counter to ripen. If they have been cut up and there are tomatoes leftover, then you can place them into your fridge. Only leave them for a few days. Don’t keep them in there for longer than 3 days or else they will become mushy.

4. Melons

Watermelons, cantaloupes, and honeydew are not meant to be stored in the fridge when they are whole. It not only kills off the flavor but it also kills off the nutrients. Keep whole melons out on the kitchen counter at room temperature. And when they are cut up, then you can put them in the fridge but they will not last longer than 3 or 4 days at the very maximum.

5. Onions

Onion must be stored in a cool and dark place as they need to be away from sunlight. And never put raw onions in the fridge as they will become moldy as well as soft. Not very appetizing at all.

Now you know what foods to not refrigerate. This means after going grocery shopping, do not place these foods in the fridge at all unless they have been used and there is some leftover.
