Many homeowners are hesitant to buy cleaners due to the fact that many are filled with unknown chemicals. Even the products for cleaning that are said to be green may not be as pure as advertised. Therefore, it is understandable that many individuals would be hesitant to shop for cleaners from a supermarket or pharmacy such as CVS or Walgreens.
However, they don’t need to as they can use natural ingredients that are ideal and meant for cleaning and create DIY cleaners with them. They will have to research the type of cleaner to create based on what purpose they want to use it for. However, listed below are 5 natural components of chemical-free DIY cleaners.
1. Vinegar
Vinegar is most definitely a natural substance that has been used for cleaning for a long time, other than being used to flavor up food. But in many DIY cleaning solution suggestions, vinegar is one of the key ingredients which usually goes with warm water. Again that depends on what needs to be cleaned. It can be used for cleaning carpet, wooden and tile floors, and some types of furniture and tiles.
2. Hydrogen Peroxide
This chemical is safe, and really what it is, its water with an extra molecule of oxygen. Therefore, it turns into oxygen water that is harmless. It is very eco-friendly and it is a much favorable substitute for bleach. Bleach has dangers that hydrogen peroxide does not. Therefore, this can be used to ‘bleach’ clothing instead and it will not burn the same way that bleach can.
3. Essential Oils
Many essential oils are perfect for including in cleaning solutions that are eco-friendly and safe such as lemon, eucalyptus, lemongrass, lavender, and tea tree oil. They provide wonderful scents and can lighten up the atmosphere as well. Additionally, some essential oils such as tea tree oil are naturally antimicrobial as well. Therefore, you will be reassured that it can not just clean your surfaces. However, it will keep them squeaky clean as well.
4. Borax
This is an alkali substance that you can use in order to remove very tough stains such as grease, oil, and even dirt if it is very caked on. It is not recommended to use it if there is no need for it. Only in extreme dirty situations where it is hard to clean otherwise through other means, borax can be used.
5. Castile Soap
Castile soap is a soap that is made with vegetable oil and it can be in a bar or liquid form. It is good for removing and rinsing general dirt. And it can be either scented or unscented. You may be able to use the liquid form of this soap in DIY carpet cleaners as well.
Now that you know about these harmless cleaning ingredients that you can include in any DIY cleaner, you don’t need to worry about looking for cleaners that are questionable anymore. What would you add to my list? What are YOUR favorite DIY cleaners?
